The Tattoo weekend features a number of memorable events.

  • Tattoo Hullabaloo

    Thursday, April 24 – Saturday, April 26 4:30 - 7:30 PM
    Sunday, April 27 11:30 AM – 2:30 PM
    Scope Plaza, Free and Open to the Public

    Come early and enjoy music, dancing, drill routines and drumming exhibitions that kick off each Tattoo performance. Food, drink and souvenirs are available for purchase. Prepare for the downbeat of the Virginia International Tattoo!

  • NATO Flag Raising Ceremony

    Thursday, April 24, 5:00PM
    Scope Plaza, Free and Open to the Public

    Celebrate the bond between the city of Norfolk and NATO at this colorful display of NATO Member Nation flags that includes representation from all NATO Nations and performances by the U.S. Fleet Forces Band.

    Percussionists from all over the world show their skills in this exciting display. In partnership with Drum Corps International.

    Highland dancers of all levels will compete in this brand new competition.

    Highland dancing is one of the most physically demanding forms of dancing in the world and originated as a way for Scottish warriors to stay fit and learn the complicated footwork necessary for fighting.

    Criteria for judging includes precision, timing of steps and body control. Dancers should appear relaxed and well in control of the movements.

  • Norfolk NATO Festival Annual Parade of Nations

    The only parade in the U.S. to honor NATO features over 100 parade units including U.S. and international bands, military units, community groups and floats representing ever NATO Member Nation!

  • Norfolk NATO Festival International Village

    Saturday, April 26, 11:30AM-3PM
    Town Point Park, Norfolk, Free and Open to the Public

    Immediately following the Parade of Nations, join in a celebration of our local NATO Headquarters with international music, arts, and cuisine.

  • Virginia International Tattoo American Pipe Band Championship

    Saturday, April 26, Noon-5PM
    Closing Ceremony with Massed Bands performance and award presentation at 6PM
    Scope Plaza, Free and Open to the Public

    This traditional Scottish contest features the largest gathering of the best pipe bands in the Eastern United States adjudicated by an international panel of judges. The event concludes with an exciting massed band performance and awards ceremony.
